[RESOLVED] For announcements, block them after a new announcement appears

Post by DestroyerOfDestruction » Thu Nov 14, 2019 4:59 am

When it comes to search announcements, seeing them in disorder is annoying and confusing, since it may mean going to another tab to see the searched announcement. Keeping the order there is important to track what was shown and to research on the game history.

I request that (after) an announcement thread is shown, it become blocked so that no one can bump it intentionally or not. To opine further on what was announced prior, there are the General discussion subforum and IN SOME CASES the Feedback and suggestions subforum. My suggestion would include blocking the open and old threads.

----------------------------------------
Edit: I decided to close this suggestion now that I am a moderator and I can close announcement threads that have expired. I know exactly when can I close announcement threads or whether I should do it at all. I'd rather give space for more important suggestions.

Me personally, I've never really had much of an issue with people commenting on Announcement topics that aren't the most recent, nor do I find it annoying that the Announcement topics may be out of order on occasion.

In my opinion, Announcement topics that currently unlocked that are still relevant for discussion as they pertain to either the current version release, or to features of an upcoming version release should remain open.

If any Announcement topics should be locked that currently aren't, I believe they should be those topics associated to staff hires/applications that are no longer of use, events that have since concluded, any topic referring to a version release prior to the current release, and any other topic that is no longer relevant.

I agree with Royalguard pretty much completely. I think we could stand to lock them when they pertain to outdated updates, as announcement threads typically serve as hubs for discussion of upcoming content. I don't think it's necessary to lock announcements that still regard upcoming content after a more recent announcement is made.

I think that announcements on a previous build should be blocked to avoid thread necromancing of older threads.

Ok, but who will moderate the forums, there are little active moderators on the forum
