I decided to write an essay about this ending for some reason.
This ending was revolutionary and iconic for its time. Basically every game during the time had happy, cheerful endings with fanfares. However, this introduced a truly depressing feeling, like you did something wrong. That there could be be a better ending. But there isn't. This is your only choice: The depressing music and empty feeling of Mega Man just walking. He doesn't say anything, he doesn't think anything, he just sadly has his head drooped. Nobody had ever seen something like this before: A sad, terrible premise. As if Mega Man was punished, not by Wily, not by Light, not even the robot masters, but the person controlling him: The player. It brought new expression and made you care about a story that was hardly there. A character who hardly spoke. And a game. This ending paved the way for more emotional story elements in the game. Trust me, most sad stories in game must have been influenced by Mega Man 2. There's no way you can deny it. Mega Man 2's ending is one of the truly influential endings ever made.

This is over-interpretation. You probably haven't played games that have a deeper storyline, games like Silent Hill 2 or Nier Automata, so why claiming such a stupid thing (not trying to be rude sorry)?

Having a sad music in the credits doesn't make the ending the most influencial ever made, your statement feels like it's been made out of nostalgia and nothing else.

Last thing : Metroid's ending, released two years before MM2, is even more depressing imo.

I didnt ven start playing video games until 2006 how woul I have nostalgia for it? What i meant by that whole thing is how much emotion it provokes in a game with little story. It's revolutionary. Maybe it just hasn't aged well. but it is.
I dont want to type up an argument so just watch this video please.

Everyone has nostalgia, even when it comes from something you experienced months or a year ago. So I don't understand this argument... But even if it doesn't come from nostalgia, it comes from a very personal emotion that can hardly justify your "essay" imo.

What i meant by that whole thing is how much emotion it provokes in a game with little story. It's revolutionary.
I understand it provokes a powerful emotion as far as you are concerned, it doesn't mean it's revolutionary.

In my humble opinion Metroid's ending, with such a plot twist, is probably more revolutionary (even if it's not) than a sad music.

This is honestly one of the very few things i actually like about Mega Man 2. Its music was great.
Currently working on Mega Man and Bass 3: Terra's Revenge, a level series taking place between Mega Man 9 and 10

Sheep Man, Mega Man Killers, and Wheel Cutter for 1.6

it’s depressing because it’s an underwhelming title compared to any other game in the series

Those games don't have as many design flaws as 2. I'll go into specifics if you want me to, it's going to take a few paragraphs of raging about games that are nearly 30-20 years old.
