Star man and plant man's busters are used to propel their shields. As for Dive man and Dust man, I have no idea.

I don't think they are for shield since jewel man, wood man don't have buster hand and still make shield. And also skull man makes shield and has buster hand but that hand is for shooting.

Dust Man's is actually one of those little handheld vaccuum cleaners, my hypothesis is that he uses it to gather dust from small cramped spaces, which both serves his function as a cleaning robot and also gathers the dust and dirt as part of his Dust Crusher.

Dive Man does not have a Buster hand, it's just the way his sprite is drawn. He actually has two normal hands.

Plant Man does use his Buster in the Arcade games, apparently just fires normal bullets (or maybe it's what he uses to fire his seeds, I'd need to check again)

Star Man is the only one whose shield actually comes from his Buster.

IMO, for most robot masters that have a buster arm but never use them for any type of signature attack, it can likely be assumed that it is some variation of the traditional compact solar energy buster, unless otherwise stated by official lore/media.

I mean, its not like this is unheard of, robot masters such as Skull Man, Bright Man, Gemini Man, Flash Man, and probably more, have been seen using their generic busters in combat.
Due to my current inability to play MMM in a satisfactory manner on either of my devices, I will be on hiatus from activity for an indefinite period of time.

True, but I think at least for Star man this is the case, because when Star man launches his shield forward, his buster creates a flash of light from it.

Like I said above, Star Man is the only Robot Master whose shield comes from his buster.

Also, Pump Man's variation on it. His shield comes from the pipe in the middle of his chest, but his hose arm is there to suck water in, so that whenever Pump Man pumps with the handle of his head, and his "buster hand" is in the water, he sucks water in that later comes out of his chest as his Water Shield.
