Looking for GB Palettes?

Post by Casual Builder » Fri Feb 19, 2021 12:54 pm

Wanna make your Game Boy experience more colorful than ever before? Not just for Mega Man GB saga, but for the rest of iconic titles like Tetris, Pokemon Red & Blue, Link's Awakening, and many other monochrome games for the legendary portable brick?
Then you've come to the right place!

For months, I was searching for great 4-color palettes that could work with classic Game Boy emulation in mind. As you can see, the entire operation was pretty much worth it.

Special Thanks to following sources (and people):
* Nintendo for all 32 official Super Game Boy palette variations.
* Lospec.com for many custom masterpieces.
* DeviantArt member TheWolfBunny for many palettes inspired by multimedia franchises/advertised merchandise.
* Color Hunt website for the overall inspiration.

Everything you see here can be freely used to enhance your Game Boy experience.
Enjoy the collection!

In all honestly, greyscale is ALL you'll need for a classic game boy game. If colors matter to you, then I would suggest moving to GameBoy Color, or GameBoy Advance.

It's like suggesting/looking for various types of NES palettes that can have different light tones. different saturations, etc.

No offense, but Greyscale might be boring for some folks.

I concur, Doctor. :)
However, original Game Boy also needs some love... hence this collection.
Beautiful palettes make monochrome experience much better, in my opinion.

In case you haven't noticed, those are Game Boy palettes which take only 4 colors instead of 256.
Doing different NES palettes would take an eternity.

Personally, I'm a sucker for color variety.

Uhhh.... The same can be said about making GameBoy palettes. You could have an INFINITE amount of GameBoy style palettes, given that the system/emulator/etc has the ability to customize the colors as you want..

I'm not contesting this - I totally agree with you. :ugeek:

I've found only what can be considered the best color combinations that work perfectly with Game Boy in mind. Sure, the variations are limitless... but only some of these variations can make the picture beautiful.
