Spread Drill

Post by D-Man » Thu Mar 26, 2020 5:45 pm

What?
Amazing splitting weapon that comes in small, medium, and large! I'm totally not biased at all!

How?
Spread Drill sends out a large drill that slowly cruises forward before arcing downward, and deals 4 damage once to enemies it hits, using 2 units of energy upon usage. When the shoot button is pressed while it's onscreen, it splits into two medium-sized drills that fly straight forward and slightly faster. These can deal 2 damage each before vanishing. If the fire button is pressed again before the drills disappear, they reach their final form: a spread of 4 tiny drills that are much faster and can deal 1 damage each. The drills will continue moving if they defeat an enemy with less HP than it's damage values. Splitting it does not consume energy.

Why?
Currently, MMM lacks special weapons that can split into multiple parts, and the Spread Drill would make an excellent candidate since it can be manually splitted, instead of having to hit an enemy first. It's different sizes and damage values make it good in most combat scenarios, and puzzles could be formed around when and where to detonate it.

Other
Spread Drill could be given the ability to destroy Cracked Blocks. Bass uses a red color scheme for this weapon.

I agree on this weapon's inclusion into Mega Man Maker.

I forgot about that... I mostly saw Crystal Eye as just a rebounding weapon.

G Laser technically splits into 3 parts, but you'll rarely see it because of how specific the circumstances need to be

Drill weapons are cool imo, I'd hope to see this in the future

It's important to look at the differences here though. It's the subtle nuances that give each Mega Man weapon it's originality, both in execution and application.

Crystal Eye does indeed split, but only on surface contact and it's trajectory is that of a rebounding weapon.

Spread Drill splits but only on player command and even can even then split yet again. It's trajectory is completely different from Crystal Eye as well.

Two very different weapons with two very different usages in application, though I admit I did have a giggle at Braden's comment. :P

Spread Drill is my second most wanted weapon from Mega Man and Bass, right behind Ice Wall.
