Mega Man 11 goes Platinum

Post by Blue_Bummer » Sun Nov 10, 2019 2:08 am

I would think this is good news. This makes Mega Man 12 a very likely possibility. ;)
As highlighted by Rockman Corner, Capcom’s Platinum Titles list documents that Mega Man 11 has now sold 1 million copies and counting. Of Capcom’s all-time top-selling games, this title is currently placed at #89. (Monster Hunter: World is #1 with an extraordinary 14.1 million copies sold, utterly eclipsing #2 Resident Evil 5 at 7.5 million copies sold.) In descending order of sales, Mega Man 11 now joins Mega Man 2, Mega Man Battle Network 4, Mega Man X, Mega Man Legacy Collection, and Mega Man 3 for having sold over 1 million copies.

This is a terrific accomplishment for a franchise that Capcom was barely supporting just a few years ago. It’s fair to say we are in the midst of a Mega Man renaissance now, since a new Mega Man game has been decided, the Mega Man X mobile game is on the right track, Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection is incoming, and even a live-action Mega Man film is in the works.

Mega Man Battle Network 4
How on earth did that game break a million sales!? Its easily the worst MMBN game by far (IMO anyways).

Awful english translations, 100% completion being hindered by RNG story segments you get, awful random encounter boss rematch placements in places you need to travel through very regularly, stronger versions of battle chips being locked to NG+ on higher difficulties...

The game was a complete mess, and the replay value was painfully artifical.
Due to my current inability to play MMM in a satisfactory manner on either of my devices, I will be on hiatus from activity for an indefinite period of time.

That is because people buy the game BEFORE knowing how awful it is! Besides, it was a tournament-based mons game in a time where the popularity of the Pokémon League (anime version) was at its peak.

Live-action = SUCK, and I'll tell you why:

If an American director tries to make a live-action movie of a Japanese property (e.g. Dragon Ball, Death Note, Pokemon...) disaster will happen. Why? Because said director is a 50-something old fart who never watched anime and is going to completely butcher the source material by making it 100% American culture-wise, with completely different values and viewpoints on what characters should be like.

Furthermore, the flashy feats that are shown in animation are outright impossible in real life, and even computer-generated special effects can only go so far.

And then there's the characters' visual designs. You think they're making the movie for us hard-core nerds of the franchise? HELL NO! The movie is aimed at normal people, and the characters are going to be re-designed with the current era and culture's sensibilities! None of the cartoony childish designs we see in our beloved games! They would look absolutely RIDICULOUS when translated to live-action!

So no... DON'T look forward to a live-action movie! Just don't.

lol wut

Also, in a similar manner to Sonic, there already exists a live-action fan film of this series, made long ago:
https://megaman.fandom.com/wiki/Mega_Man_(Fan_Film)

And like the upcoming offical Sonic film, an official Mega Man film would only exist for the sole purpose of generating a profit, at the expense of the viewers. It would feature ham-fisted references to the source material (i.e. MM1 and MM2, the only games in the series), forced humor, and other tripe to be expected from modern-day cinema.

Maybe it's success is built off the game before it? 🤔

Perhaps. BN3 ended on a rather definitive note (the song that plays in the final area is even called Final Transmission) so maybe people were not expecting there to be another game after it.

And, like LeonardMan pointed out, it has many similarities to Pokemon, especially with how it had it's own anime/manga, NT Warrior. BN4 also has more distinct version differences than it's predecessor, like Double Souls (and the story scenarios tied to them)
